 Witness: Under A Sun (Island)

This Wigan group's debut album, Before The Calm, arrived two years ago to great critical acclaim - and great public indifference. Now, Gerard Starkie and the boys have been joined by the wonderfully named Julian
Pranksky-Poole and a more upbeat album has resulted. We're not talking Robbie Williams-style mindless party hits, but there are at least a couple of identifiable choruses. Under A Sun may lack the sheer class of its predecessor, but it's still a thousand times better than most other releases you're likely to hear this summer.
