A chat with John Langley. January
2003

John Langley gives his thoughts
on the past year and what the future holds for Witness:
His thoughts on the months since the
split with Island...
The last years been kind of
frustrating, but probably no more frustrating than it was the years before
if the truth be told, just in different ways (MOAN MOAN!!); both then and now,
we seemed to be in a situation where it was difficult to do things how we
wanted to do them: then, because people wouldn't let us, and now because we
don't have the money etc. On the whole I do think we're better off now,
cos at least whatever we do is down to us. I think when we were with Island we
never really had enough confidence in ourselves to fight our corner, so we
always seemed to be at the mercy of other people, but we have learnt a lot
from that, basically we've learnt to trust our own judgment a lot more.
New material and forthcoming
album....
I think the new stuff we've
recorded kind of reflects that; I'm really glad you like it, and hopefully
we'll be able to record an LPs worth pretty soon..its really the only thing
we've got on our minds, everything else is geared to that: there's so many
cool songs knocking about now its ridiculous!!
His other band, the Blue Aeroplanes.....
The Aeroplanes thing is a
gas! There's an albums worth of stuff thats been gradually coming
together over the last few years, with loads of different people involved -
me, Paul from Grand Drive, Angelo from Massive Attack..its good stuff; I'm
trying to get a joint tour together with Witness, which could be a riot but
who knows.............
The upcoming Wigan gig....
I was just chatting to Gerard
about the Wigan gig today, we're going to make a bit of an effort to learn all
our songs!!!!!!
We've not played many gigs
recently ( you may have noticed) so I reckon we'll push the boat out a bit!
Message for the fans....
As far as messages for people
goes, I don't know really, just thanks! We're a pretty fucked up bunch and
we're sorry we keep you hanging about....also, MORROWIND is cool as fuck, PC
game to end all....er, war is bad news, um...............
I guess thats about it
Finally, thanks to John for taking
the time out to do this.
