WITNESS - HERE'S ONE FOR YOU (UNIVERSAL ISLAND)
It seems entirely unfeasible that the same bleak,
industrial town that
inflicted the utter misery of Starsailor upon the beleaguered British public
has sprouted a band of such uplifting, joyous qualities. Yes, Witness were
formed in Wigan - and you would never have guessed it if their new single is
anything to go by.
'Here's One For You' - clipped onto the end of 'American Pie 2' - is
triumphant, unpretentious guitar rock with a distinct country twang.
Building from a melodic, tinkling intro into a feast of slide guitars and
simple harmonies, you should be burning along a Californian freeway -
certainly not stuck in a traffic jam on a rainy afternoon in Wigan.
